
Dr. Jacobsohn is Professor and Head, Department of Anesthesia, University of Manitoba, Medical Director, WRHA Anesthesia Program. Dr. Jacobsohn graduated from the University of Cape Town Medical School in 1984. After initially serving as a rural GP in Canada, he completed residencies in Anesthesiology Residency and Critical Care at the University of Manitoba in 1993. Dr. Jacobsohn then trained in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota, following which he became the recipient of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Education Fellowship Award for study towards a Masters Degree in Medical Education at the University of Illinois, Chicago. After completion of his training, he rose to the position of Chief of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and Cardiothoracic Critical Care at Washington University in St Louis. In 2005, he was recruited back to Canada to his present position.
In addition to an active clinical practice in cardiac-general anesthesia, cardiac and general critical care, Dr. Jacobsohn maintains an active perioperative clinical research team with several international collaborations. He teaches and lectures extensively at his medical school, nationally and internationally, and maintains an active publication record.
Dr Mark Warner received his undergraduate degree from Miami (Ohio) University in 1976, his MD degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1979, and his subsequent training in anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic. He is currently the Annenberg Professor in Anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic. Mark has served as Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, the physician leader of Mayo’s hospitals, and a member of Mayo’s Board of Governors. He currently is Dean of the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education.
Mark has served in the leadership of a number of national anesthesiology organizations. He has been President of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Board of Anesthesiology, and has chaired the Residency Review Committee for Anesthesiology. He also has served as an editor for Anesthesiology, the journal of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
He and his wife, Mary Ellen, also an anesthesiologist at Mayo Clinic, have four grown sons. Two are students in Mayo Medical School, and the other two are members of the U.S. Air Force. Mark is an experienced pilot and sky-diver. Mary Ellen and Mark spend much of their spare time traveling to see their kids and working on their farm.
